Whitfield Architects is an independent family firm founded by Mark Whitfield, a chartered architect with over a decade of experience in residential, commercial and community architecture; and a particular interest in heritage and conservation.
From restoring listed buildings and creating beautiful new homes, to designing sports facilities, supermarkets and office schemes, Mark’s experience is diverse and informs every project that we undertake.
Examples of his past work include The Courthouse on Deansgate in Manchester city centre, a stunningly restored grade-II-listed building that’s now home to popular steak restaurant Hawksmoor and the Oddfellows Society of Friends; and Rutherford House, a new office building on Westlakes Science Park in Whitehaven.
Originally from Cumbria, Mark was educated at the highly respected Sheffield School of Architecture, part of the University of Sheffield. He then came to Manchester for professional training in 2004 and has lived in the area ever since – moving to the village of Cheadle in 2011.
Whitfield Architects’ co-founder and business manager is Liane Baddeley, who has a background in marketing, business and journalism; and also worked for many years with her family’s property firm, Baddeleys Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Liane spent most of her childhood in rural Lancashire before attending the University of Manchester (2000-2003), followed by postgraduate journalism studies (NCTJ) and roles at several publications and businesses. Her lifelong interest in buildings, particularly experience with renovation and design work, has made Whitfield Architects a very rewarding enterprise.
Mark is not only a member of the Architects Registration Board (ARB), but also the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) – and we’re officially recognised as a RIBA Chartered Practice.
RIBA represents the premium standard of architecture in the UK; and using a chartered architect means peace of mind that your project will proceed in line with planning laws and building regulations.
This keeps local authorities happy and can also make it much easier to sell your property in the future, with accurate paperwork to reassure potential buyers (and their solicitors and surveyors).
And, of course, you can expect a very impressive standard of design.
